Still life is the best way to begin the study of painting because it offers an abundant array of form, color and texture. It also does not move, which explains the name "still life". The French term for still life, Nature Morte, is even more dramatic, it means "dead life." Individuality is most encouraged, along with the study of variety of techniques, mediums and methods.
